FAQ

Do I have to complete a Registration Form?

Students must complete a Registration/Liability Waiver Form prior to taking any class at TPB. All Open Class students should check-in at the front desk at the beginning of each class.

What forms of payment do you take?

TPB accepts checks, cash, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Tuition payments are not tax-deductible as a charitable donation, and we do not provide refunds.

Do you offer any discounts for classes?

Students must show a college ID to receive the Student Rate; high school students are not eligible for this discount. Professional dancers can apply to receive the Professional Rate. To apply, please complete the Professional Rate Form. The Portland Ballet will review the information before approving the Professional Rate. TPB Curriculum students receive the student/professional rate for Open Classes.

Can I come to class late?

Any student arriving 10 or more minutes after the class start time will not be admitted. Proper warm-up is necessary for injury prevention. These exercises commence at the beginning of class.

Can I come observe a class?

Anyone who wishes to observe an Open Class must schedule a time beforehand. Please contact 503.452.8448 if you wish to observe a class.

What holidays are you closed?

TPB is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. For any last-minute schedule adjustments, please contact 503.452.8448 or review the Open Class Schedule.

What should I wear to take class?

  • TPB’s instructors need to see students’ body lines in order to make corrections and ensure that everyone is dancing safely.  Leotards, tights, and skirts are suggested, but are not mandatory.  Tighter-fitting yoga clothes are also appropriate.  Gentlemen, dance belts must be worn with tights, leggings, jazz pants, or sweat pants. Jeans and other street clothes are not acceptable.
  • Instructors reserve the right to require specific attire for their classes and may ask students to leave class or change if their attire is inappropriate.
  • Proper dance shoes must be worn at all times.  Appropriate dance shoes include flat ballet slippers, pointe shoes, modern dance paws or jazz shoes.
  • As a courtesy to TPB students and instructors, please use deodorant—unscented, if possible.  Offensive personal hygiene will be confidentially addressed and may be grounds for dismissal from class.
  • Because many people have sensitivities and allergies, please avoid using scented lotions and body sprays.
  • In order to ensure the safety of the dance floors, please do not apply lotions, oils, or salves before class.
