Dear TPB Community,
It is with a heavy heart we send this email, but as most of you have heard by now, schools are closed to in-person classes until the end of the academic year by Governor Brown’s order. Since we follow the Portland Public Schools closure status, The Portland Ballet studios will be closed until the end of our Curriculum year, June 13th. Sadly, this means that all scheduled performances through June will also be canceled: the Academy Showcase, Current/Classic and Up Close.
Dancers in our Curriculum, Career Track, and Youth Company programs have been notified of this timeline, and we are trying to support each of them during a time that surely feels disappointing.
We will be continuing Zoom Open Ballet classes Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Adult Beginning Ballet on Sundays until we can be together again at our studios. Our first Zoom ballet class a few weeks ago had over 50 students! In addition to maintaining relationships with our Portland-area dancers, virtual classes allow us to connect with dancers across the country! Their smiling faces on our computer screens brighten up these days. Click HERE to view Open Ballet & Adult Beginning Ballet Zoom class schedules.
Curriculum and Creative Ballet dancers will also have Zoom classes available to them until we can reconnect in person once again. These young, dedicated students are doing everything they can from the confined spaces of their kitchens, living rooms, and basements to be ready to join us once more in the studio and on stage, and we will support them every step of the way.
Be well, stay safe, and keep dancing!
Nancy, Jim, & Kate
