Michael McGonegal is from Portland, OR and was a founding student at The Portland Ballet. In 2007, he left to join Houston Ballet II, studying under Claudio Muñoz and Lazaro Carreño. In 2008, Mr. McGonegal was offered an apprenticeship with Houston Ballet and the following year was promoted to full company member. During his time with Houston Ballet, Mr. McGonegal performed works by renowned choreographers including: Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Ben Stevenson, and artistic director, Stanton Welch.
In 2012, Mr. McGonegal joined St. Louis Ballet under the direction of Gen Horiuchi. In his time with the company, Mr. McGonegal originated principal roles in world premieres by choreographers including: Amy Seiwert, Christopher d’Amboise, Emery LeCrone, Francis Patrelli, and Pam Tanowitz. He also performed principal roles in both classical and contemporary works including: Albrecht (Giselle), Basilio (Don Quixote), Mercuitio (Romeo & Juliet), Who Cares?, Waltz Boy (Serenade), Western Symphony, Rubies, Valse Fantasieand danced the role of The Storyteller in Twyla Tharp’s The Storyteller.
Michael has been guest teacher for TPB’s summer intensives and is thrilled to join TPB’s full-time faculty.
